What natural remedies are there?

  • Ginger has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for various ailments, including digestive issues like bloating. It works by reducing inflammation in the gut and relaxing the muscles of the digestive system, which can help to alleviate bloating and other digestive systems. You can consume ginger in a variety of forms including fresh ginger root, ginger tea, or ginger supplements.

  • Peppermint oil is a natural anti-spasmodic, it can help to relax the muscles in the digestive tract and reduce bloating. You can add a few drops of peppermint oil to a glass of water and drink it before meals or take peppermint oil supplements.

  • Fennel seeds are a traditional remedy for bloating and indigestion. They contain compounds that can help to relax the muscles in the digestive tract and reduce gas. You can chew on fennel seeds after meals or drink fennel tea.

  • Anise seeds are said to have great benefits for bloating, they stimulate digestion and reduce gas build up. Adding them to your diet or even chewing them by themselves may help.

What can I do to prevent bloating?

  • Improve your eating habits –
      • Eating in an upright position, with good posture can prevent bloating. Eating lying down can sometimes slow down your digestion and can cause bloating.
      • Chew your food well and eat at set times. Constant snacking can mean your digestive system is constantly working to break down food. Having set eating times can help your digestive system follow a healthy routine and potentially reduce bloating.
      • FODMAP containing foods have been associated with gas build up and bloating in the gut. You can test your personal reactions with a FoodMarble FODMAP Challenge! Try out some of our low FODMAP recipes for your challenge and see what works for you!
  • Test for an underlying disorder –
      • Bloating is a common symptom for different digestive disorders. Testing for IBS, SIBO and other digestive disorders could help you understand why you’re experiencing bloating. Identifying a disorder could also help find a treatment for you.
  • Do some light exercise –
    • This can help to stimulate the digestive process and can help to prevent gas buildup and bloating. Try going for a light walk after your meals!

How can FoodMarble help?

Using the FoodMarble device and app you can monitor and manage your bloating symptoms. The device measures the levels of hydrogen and methane in your breath, which can indicate the presence of  undigested carbohydrates in the gut. By tracking your breath readings before and after meals, you can identify which foods are triggering your symptoms and make more informed decisions about what to eat.

The app also allows you to log your symptoms and track your food intake, exercise, stress levels, and medications. By tracking these factors, you can identify patterns and make lifestyle changes that can help to reduce your bloating symptoms.
